In this step-by-step walkthrough, you'll learn how to set up the Paved Ad Network in your email newsletter so you can earn with every send.

The Paved Ad Network is the easiest way to monetize your newsletter with programmatic ads. Just set up an ad unit in your newsletter once, and we’ll populate it with relevant, high-quality advertisements with every send.

Quick Start Guide:

If you need help setting up Paved Ad Network ads for your newsletter, our setup wizard will guide you through the entire process:

1: Navigate to the Ad Network section of your account.

  • Existing users: In your Paved publisher account, go to the Ad Network page:

  • New users: sign up for an account and click Get Started with The Ad Network.

2: Click Add Newsletter to add a new publication to the Ad Network, or Get Started to add an existing one. This opens the Quick Setup wizard, which has 6 steps:

1: Get Started

To begin, you'll configure your newsletter to add it to the Paved Ad network.

1: In the Get Started step, read our quick introduction.

2: Click Next to continue.


2: Newsletter

Now, you'll add some details about your newsletter and its audience.

1: In the Newsletter step, enter your newsletter name, website URL, and a brief description of your audience (this step is visible to new publishers only).

2: When you’re finished, click Next.


3: Placements

Next, you'll design the look and feel of your newsletter's Ad Unit Placement Tips in our Native Ad Builder.

1: In the Placements step, click Add New Placement.

2: Give the ad placement a name and choose its position in your newsletter, and click Save. Example: Header Ad Unit > Above Fold.

3: Next, you’ll customize the design of your ad unit in our Native Ad Builder. To do this, click Edit Design.

4: Using the Native Ad Builder, customize your ad unit to fit the style of your newsletter.

  • First, enter the newsletter width, fonts, font sizes, and colors. Click Next.

  • Next, select if you would like to have an ad placement with or without an image. Select and click Next.

  • If you choose the ad placement with an image, in the next step you will be able to choose the position of the image. Select and click Next.

  • As the last step, choose if you would like to place the headline below or above the image. Select and click Save.

  • If you would like to customize your ad unit further, you can do that inside the editor. Turn elements on or off and change styles, colors, fonts, sizes, and more. You can edit both the desktop and mobile versions of the ad unit. Once you are done, click Save.

5: To exit the Native Ad Builder, click Close.

6: Click Preview to see how your ad unit will look

7: If you’re happy with the look and feel of the ad unit, click Close to exit the preview.

8: Optional: repeat steps 1-7 to add additional placements to your newsletter.

9: Click Next to continue.


4: Domain

In this step, you'll choose how you'd like to load your ads.

1: In the Domain step, make your selection:

  • Option 1 (for advanced users only):

    Custom Domain: You can add and configure a Subdomain for Ad Delivery and load all ads from your own subdomain. This is good for email deliverability.

  • Option 2:

    Shared Domain: If you are not an advanced user, choose the second option with a shared domain.

2: Click Next to continue.


5: Code

After you've set your domain preferences, you're ready to insert the CSS and HTML code snippets into your newsletter.

1: In the Code step, use the drop-down menu to choose your email service provider (ESP).

We’ll automatically generate the HTML and CSS code for the ad unit, which you can copy and paste into your newsletter template.

2: Click Copy Code to grab your ad unit's CSS and HTML codes.

3: Next, you’ll add the sponsorship unit to your newsletter:

  • In a new browser tab, log in to your email service provider's site.

  • Open the HTML view of your newsletter template, and paste the codes into your template.

    • CSS Code:

      Add the CSS code at the top of your newsletter, just above the </head> tag or at the top of your email template

    • HTML Code:

      Add the HTML code exactly where you’d like the ad unit to appear.

  • Save changes to the template and return to your Paved account.

4: Click Next to continue.

6: Review

Almost there! Next, you'll submit the ad for review.

1: On the Review step, you'll complete your ad and submit it for approval. We’ll provide a unique @review.paved.com email address where you can send a draft copy of your newsletter with the ad unit inside.

2: In your email client, send us a test email containing the ad network placement.

3: After you send us a copy of your newsletter, click Submit For Review.


Next Steps

After submission, we will review and approve your newsletter. You will get an email notification once we approve your ad unit. The approval and review process typically takes up to one business day.

Once everything is approved, you can start serving ads and earning money with every send!
